My rating: 4 of 5 stars
My first Neil Gaiman book. I’ve seen and liked the episode he wrote for Doctor Who and after reading a lot about him and having American Gods on my reading list for a really long time, I finally read this book in four days straight. My first impressions were that this was the adult version of Rick Riordan’s Percy Jackson series, but that comparison is probably supposed to be the other way around. Obviously, the idea is fantastic – and what would make it more perfect is for some fan art for each of the modern Gods. I’m sure this probably exists.
It just so happened that two days before starting this book I had returned from Sweden. So, I knew how Wednesday was originally named after Odin. So, that twist, I must say I saw coming. The others, I didn’t. And they were good twists.
There are also plans making this into a series with Bryan Fuller (Hannibal, NBC) at its helm. So, keep an eye out for that as well.
